ACE EManifests - An Overview

In response to the need for increased border security while not slowing down the flow of goods into the country US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) have implemented a reporting regulation called ACE eManifest. Now available within the Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) is the ability to submit an electronic truck manifest (also known as an "emanifest") that is automated with the United States trade processing system to enhance security at the border for the trucking trade. The process involves electronically sending shipment details to the border before arrival stating important information required for clearance. This automated system sends the details for imports entering the United States before the truck arrives to allow for a fast approval upon arrival at the border. EManifest has been mandatory at all U.S. Highway crossings since 2007.

The following are some of the details required to be sent with the ACE emanifest:

- Conveyance and Equipment Details including vehicle identification number, truck and trailer license plate number (with state or province of issue)

- Driver Details including citizenship, gender, date of birth, license and passport numbers and address

- Shipment Details including shipper and consignee information, SCAC code with shipment control number, arrival date and shipment type

- Cargo Details including description, weight, country of origin, quantity, hazardous material information and bonded shipment details

- Information on any additional drivers, passengers or crew.

How is the ACE eManifest information sent?

Highway carriers have a few options for submitting electronic manifests. The US Government provides direct access via the Internet with the ACE Portal. There is no fee for the portal however the cost may be considerable as the portal is generic and somewhat cumbersome. Another option is to purchase custom software to file direct to ACE via EDI. This option may prove too expensive for most companies. The easiest way to submit an ACE emanifest is to use a third party service provider. An ACE certified provider could assist you with sending an emanifest to Customs without the hassle of learning to do it yourself. There are currently a few companies that offer an ACE emanifest service. Third party service providers can be found by doing a Google search for "emanifest service".

Companies required to participate in ACE eManifest will need a Standard Carrier Alpha Code (SCAC). This is a unique code used to identify carriers and shipments going into the United States and is required to send emanifests. SCAC's are issued by the National Motor Freight Traffic Association.

Bed Liner Spray On Advantages

Bed liner application protects the truck bed on many pickups. Spray on coatings work well for a number of fairly simple reasons. Here are reasons to choose a spray on coating for your pickup.

Custom Fit

Drop in bed liners and custom carpet liners only come in sizes for some trucks. For older trucks and less popular pickups, a spray coating may be the only option in a full coverage liner. What's more, with a spray liner you always get a perfect fit. That may not be the case with some of the other liners. And a poor fitting liner can lead to all sorts of problems.

Permanent

These coatings are on to stay. No worries about replacing liners, since they are there to last. Now most liners are UV resistant and not prone to fade either, so the look is stable over time.

Fast

Liner paint formulations result in fast curing and the time your truck is down for lining is very short. That fast application time and fast cure time results from using special paints made in two parts. The two parts are mixed at the paint gun and harden almost instantly and cure very rapidly also.

Guarantee

Part of the whole professionally applied package is the guarantee. Now it isn't a guarantee that you can't damage a liner, it is a guarantee that the liner will be repaired. That's as simple as a respray. And a respray, or recoat, can be done multiple times. That guarantee is also your assurance that the coating will be applied properly. See, the key to a good sticking coat is proper preparation before any spraying happens. That prep will be done right, otherwise the applicator gets to do it all over. That isn't in his best interest.

Tough

Bed liner paint includes lots of rubbery texture for cushioning, but one of the real keys to success for bed liner coatings is very simple. The liner material is put on very thick. Up to about 5 gallons of paint make up a typical liner coat. The coating is simply so thick that it is difficult to scratch through it. That thickness explains why the truck bed is almost out of reach for anything that can damage the bed itself. The liner takes the hit instead of the underlying metal of the bed.

Bed liner spray works well for a number of reasons. Durability of liner coatings results for the material itself and also from the application methods too.

What is a PCB?

A PCB (printed circuit board) mechanically supports electronic parts that are electrically connected with the help of conductive pathways, traces etched from copper sheets which are laminated onto a non-conductive substrate. Much of the electronic industry's assembly, PCB design and quality control needs are set by standards which are set by the IPC organization. The main generic standard for the design of a printed circuit is IPC-2221A, regardless of the material used to manufacture the board.

Circuit boards consist of an insulator which consists of one or numerous layers of material glued into a single entity. The additional layers serve as grounding to the board. The copper traces are either created by laying down individual lines mechanically or by coating the entire board in copper and stripping away the excess. By stripping away the excess, the needed printed circuits are left which connect electronic parts.

Many printed circuit board shops can help with the design process and offer high end features such as an auto router and trace optimizer which can drastically decrease the layout time. However, the best results for laying out it are achieved by at least some manual routing.

Custom PCB

These days, there are various kinds of circuit boards available in variety of materials and finishes, including FR4, FR4 High Temperature, Polyimide, GeTek, Rogers, Arlon, Nelco, Alumina, Ceramic, Bakelite, FR1, CEM1, and CEM5. The thickness of a circuit board varies based on the number of layers and can be as thin as 1.0mm (0.0394"). They can be single sided or multi-layered with cooper clad of 1-oz or higher. Although these are standard PCBs available in the market, yet you can get a customized it to suit your needs. The key is to find the right PCB manufacturer to make the boards to your specifications.

A custom PCB can be made in several ways. For instance, flex circuit boards are designed to be very flexible. This allows it to be placed in positions which are otherwise not possible or to be used in wire systems. A PCB can also be used in satellites, spaceships and other machines in outer space. Rigid copper cores are designed in a way that conduct heat away from the sensitive parts and protect them in the extreme temperatures they experience.

Some circuit boards are designed with an interior conductive layer to transfer power to various parts without using extra traces. These customized needs are circuit boards that are ordered by companies to fulfill specific requirements with limited space. In addition, PCBs are also used by students and electronic hobbyists for their custom projects and applications.

Advantages

* Are cost-effective and highly reliable.
* Economical for high-volume production.
* Have color codes for different connections and are therefore easy to install.
* Mention the rating of the device which helps in their maintenance.

Disadvantages

* More layout effort.
* Higher initial cost as compared to point-to-point constructed circuits or wire-wrapped.
* Etching of circuit boards generates chemicals which are dangerous for the environment.
* Cannot be updated once it gets printed.

PCB prototypes and low volume PCBs are available in the market which are inexpensive and meet the majority of needs. Free PCB software can easily be found online these days. It is simple to use by an amateur and efficient for a professional. PCB circuit boards are designed especially for each circuit and make construction very easy.

All the Thrills and Spills of Monster Trucks in Your Own Home!

Monster trucks are pick-up trucks that have been custom built, or modified, to have massive wheels. They provide an exciting form of sports entertainment which is extremely popular in the USA. You will often find these trucks featured at events like mud-bogging, tractor pulls, or motocross.

These huge beasts usually have one main task to perform - that's to crush as many small cars under its gigantic tires as possible. In their quest to do this, the trucks have to climb over all sorts of daunting man-made obstacles. Watching a live event is the ultimate thrill for fans of these giants.

At certain events, you will only see one truck on a track. The most exciting events involve two trucks on symmetrical tracks racing against each other. All trucks are fitted with a switch called a RII (Remote Ignition Interrupter) which enables the driver to shut down the motor if he or she loses control of the vehicle.

Another great spectator event is when the trucks go 'freestyle'. Each driver can select their own course and obstacles. During a freestyle event you are guaranteed to see a number of death-defying jumps and wheel stands. Not forgetting the motor home that gets crushed to pieces in the gripping finale. If it's not a motor home, it's bound to be a small airplane or a school bus!

You can bring mini monster trucks into your own home! Get your own remote controlled truck and encourage your friends to follow suit. Once you have a gang of buddies, some trucks and a track, you can capture all the excitement in your own back yard. Get some small toy cars and let your monsters crush them into the dirt!

Look online and view the well known brands, or join a mini monster truck forum and get advice from those in the know. Decide whether you would prefer an electric powered truck or a gas powered model. Electric trucks are quieter but gas trucks go faster. If you are going to race indoors then electric is recommended.

Locate a hobby shop in your area and go and have a good look at the different types of trucks. This is a good way to see them in real life. Once you have decided on your favorite, don't buy it from the hobby shop until you have compared the price online. You might be able to get it for less. A final tip - you don't have to buy the best brands to have just as much fun with your mini monster trucks.

Mercedes Sprinter Reviews

Think of Mercedes and you immediately think of a luxurious and stylish auto. You probably don't often associate the name with cargo or hauling soccer teams. But that's exactly what the new Mercedes Sprinter is being recognized for in the latest reviews. It's a full-sized van that maintains the amenities and class you expect from Mercedes, but with more space that can be customized to your specific needs.

The cargo version of the Sprinter was built to haul everything from pool equipment to storage boxes. It still has superior handling despite the wide body, making it much more graceful than the jalopies that many commercial business owners utilize. For a car with its storage capacity, it has excellent fuel economy. With a variety of options available, you can tailor the car to suit your business needs. The 2008 model will feature optional power-sliding door for smoother access. You also have the choice of body lengths and roof heights---no more strapping ladders to the outside.

For those who think outside of the box, the Sprinter makes an ideal vehicle for charter and other travel services. It's roomy enough to fit a good-sized group including luggage. It would make an excellent option for more intimate tours and transportation services, providing plenty of room.

The Mercedes Sprinter is also available as a passenger van. With a multitude of customizations available, you can make it the ideal family vehicle. Add-ons include parking assist, six CD changer, review camera, and heated seats. The engine, a 3.0 Liter turbodiesel V6, can tow a good-sized load. For those apprehensive to diesel, there is a gasoline V6 option available.

One of the most talked about features in reviews is its adaptability to suburban life. It can be bought in both passenger and cargo models, but its sleek exterior and comfortable seating arrangements make it an ideal vehicle for a large family as well. It has ten removable seats so you can adjust the car to fit your needs. Going camping with the dog and kids? Pull out a few seats, throw your equipment in the back and you'll still have room to spare. No longer, cramped car rides. And since its light at the gas pump, it is a more economical choice than an RV.

For those concerned about drivability, its superior handling, specially balanced to account for its height and width, makes it a great choice for families. It also comes equipped with anti-lock breaks and an emergency window, making it a safe choice for those with children.

The Mercedes Sprinter also comes with standard features that you won't find in other full-sized vans. A tilt and telescoping steering wheel and automatic climate control are just two of the perks included. These features, when combined with the Sprinter's ease of customization, make it a sound investment.

So, if you're tired of compromising style for size, and size for style, you might consider trying out the Mercedes Sprinter. You can be assured a comfortable and smooth drive.

A Guide to Motorhomes

Class A Motorhome

A totally custom motorhome body mounted on a chassis supplied by a truck manufacturer. Normally, these are the most expensive motorhomes. A purpose built body with incorporated cab offers the utmost spaciousness and typically includes beds which can be left permanently made up such as an over cab 'pull-down' double bed above the front seats

Class C Motorhome

A custom motorhome body mounted on a conventional chassis and cab supplied by a truck manufacturer, usually with a fixed in place bed or storage area over the cab, although this space can sometimes be too claustrophobic for adults as headroom is restricted and may be more suitable for children. This style of motorhome is also known as C-Class. The manufacturer uses the chassis & cab of the base vehicle and builds a new body onto the back of it; these make up the largest proportion of motorhomes at present although A Class ownership numbers are rising fast. The part of the body extending over the cab is known as the 'over-cab' or 'luton'. An alternative, called a 'low-profile' has a much smaller over-cab space that is used purely for cabinets & storage purposes

Campervan

This is a small motorhome with either a fixed roof or an elevating. Broken down as follows, High Top - The option motorhome, which takes the whole of a kombi base vehicle, kits it out with an assortment of necessary fixtures and fittings and then adds standing room via a high roof.

Elevating Roof

The elevating roof motorhome also uses the equivalent kombi base vehicle to the "high top" and has a similar layout and equipment. The roof can be raised when on site to allow the use of the available standing room and then lowered for traveling and storage.

5th Wheeler

An extension on the front of the motorhome section extends over the tow vehicle, and usually mounts onto a turntable, or "wheel" - hence the name "5th Wheeler
